Nevada Dusters record: 5-2
The Dusters faced Sandy Koufax again as the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to Horizon Field seeking revenge for being swept in the first series of the year. Unhappy with the errors and lack of offensive production by Lee Mayes, Naylor started George Banks in right field, and gave Doug Camilli his first start as catcher in place of Johnny Roseboro. The top of the Dusters order -- Pearson, Fregosi and Williams -- combined for eight of Nevada's eleven hits and all four runs, while Pearson hit his second homer of the year off Koufax. Starter Joe Horlen gave up four runs -- a two-run single by Del Crandall and a two-run homer by Daryl Spencer in the 2nd. Then Horlen settled down and kept the Dodgers at bay long enough for Nevada to play catch up. Four singles in the 3rd narrowed the deficit to 4-3. In the 7th Fregosi tripled and scored on a Billy Williams single to tie the game. But in the top of the 10th pinch hitter Don Zimmer homered off Dusters reliever Bob Duliba, and though two Nevada players reached base in the bottom of the 10th, pinch hitters Gary Kolb and Roseboro could not bring them home. Los Angeles won, 5-4.

Nevada Dusters record: 6-2
With Al Downing, the scheduled starter for Game 2, out several days with a finger blister, Nevada hastily summoned 25-year-old rookie Dwight Siebler from AAA Bakersfield. Vic Power started at third base in place of Clete Boyer; Naylor had Power pegged as a utility man who could play any of the infield positions and who added pop to the lineup. Power was responsible for one of Nevada's six hits on the day, but it was Billy Williams, with a solo homer in the 8th off LA's starter Johnny Podres, who gave the Dusters their only run. One run was all that was needed, however, because Siebler pitched a gem, a two-hitter through seven innings in which he walked four and struck out five. Duliba and Reniff kept the Dodgers on the ropes in the 8th and 9th, and Nevada took the second game, 1-0.

Nevada Dusters record: 7-2
Game 3 was an entirely different story, as the Dusters offense exploded with 11 runs on 12 hits, to win 11-3. This time Power played at first base in Donn Clendenon's stead, and got one of Nevada's three homers, the other two belonging to Jim Fregosi and Albie Pearson. It was Pearson's third home run of the year; the Dusters' lead-off man went 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs and three ribbies. Fregosi was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs. For the Dodgers, Bill Skowron was 3-for-4 with a run and catcher Del Crandall went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Nevada starter Dave McNally allowed all three of the Los Angeles runs during his five innings of work. Then the Dusters bullpen, in the form of Dailey, Duliba and Raymond, shut the Dodgers down completely. The Dusters found themselves on top of the NL at 7 and 2, one game up on Chicago and St. Louis. But Conn Hudson warned reporters that it was much too early to put stock in the standings.
