Nevada Dusters record:11-2
Al Downing returned to the starting rotation in time to pitch the first game of the home series against Cincinnati -- and went seven innings without allowing a hit in a 4-2 victory for Nevada. Center fielder Albie Pearson and George Banks, starting at third base, both hit solo home runs -- it was Pearson's fourth of the year -- while Lee Maye and Clete Boyer added two more runs in the 8th with timely RBI singles. The no-hitter was spoiled in the 9th by Jerry Lynch, who hit a solo homer over the center field wall; Hal Reniff took the mound to issue a pair of walks, and an error by Jerry Adair led to the second Reds run. Cincinnati threatened to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the last frame, but left three men stranded. Pearson was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Adair was also 2-for-4 in Nevada's sixth win in a row.

Nevada Dusters record: 11-3
In Game 2, Cincinnati's Joey Jay pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits, handing the Dusters their first-ever shutout. Nevada had several opportunities. Gary Kolb led off the Nevada first with a single. Jerry Adair did likewise to start the second. Johnny Roseboro, first up in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch. In the 5th, Vic Powers led off with a triple. In the 7th Jay walked Power and Albie Pearson with one out. But in every instance the Reds starter regrouped, bore down, and got out of trouble. Cincinnati shortstop Leo Cardenas went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, while first baseman Gordy Coleman was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Jerry Lynch hit a solo homer off reliever Bob Duliba. Dusters starter Dave McNally didn't pitch badly -- 2 runs on 6 hits in five innings -- but Joey Jay dominated.

Nevada Dusters record: 12-3
Game 3 saw each team collect 11 hits, and the lead changed hands several times. Nevada starter Pete Richert had a rough first inning; two Cincinnati singles coupled with a fielding error by second baseman Jerry Adair loaded the bases, and Richert walked Frank Robinson and Hank Foiles, handing the Reds a 2-0 advantage. But in the bottom of the 1st Lee Maye and Jim Fregosi singles, followed by a walk issued to Billy Williams, set the table for Jerry Adair's grand slam home run. Cincinnati tied it thanks to Don Blasingame's two-run homer in the 4th and took a 5-4 lead in the 6th. Jerry Adair's solo home run to right in the bottom of the 6th tied the game again. In the 7th Nevada reliever Claude Raymond gave up back-to-back doubles to Gene Freese and Hank Foiles, and the Reds were back in front by a run. In the bottom of the inning Jerry Adair delivered once again -- this time with a double plating Maye and Fregosi, who were proving to be a potent one-two punch at the top of the order. In the 8th a bases-loaded fielding error by Reds right fielder Frank Robinson gave the Dusters two more runs and the 9-6 lead they would hold to the final out. Maye went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and two runs; Adair racked up seven RBIs with his two-bagger and pair of long balls. With a record of 12-and-3 the Dusters found themselves atop the NL, three games up on the Cubs, the Dodgers, and the Cardinals (all 9-and-6).
